I think that the tiger is behind the door that the young man opens. I think this because the princess says “How her soul had burned in agony when she had seen him rush to meet that woman, with her flushing cheek and sparkling eye of triumph; when she had seen him lead her forth, his whole frame kindled with the joy of recovered life…” (303). It is said of the princess that “…the savage blood transmitted to her through long lines of wholly barbaric ancestors, she hated the woman who blushed and trembled behind that silent door” (302). The princess truly loved the young man, but I think that she couldn’t bare to have him go to a women she hated so much. These are the reasons why I think that the princess honored her savage side and told the young man to open the door with the tiger behind it.

I personally believe that behind the door, the tiger awaits. Although that is not how I want the story to end, reading about the princesses personality, I conclude that she chooses the tiger. On page 300, paragraph 5, it says that the daughters soul was as fervent and imperious as the barbaric king’s soul. Knowing that she is selfish and passionate, I believe that she would rather have her lover die than be with someone that is not herself. I think that the princess would be jealous if it was the lady.

I think that the lady was behind the door that the man opened. I think this because the princess wanted the man to be happy and not die even though she really wanted to marry him herself. Also, I don’t think that she wanted to see the man she loved being killed right before her eyes. Even though the man that loved her was being married to another woman, he was probably thankful the the princess saved his life. The princess helped him because she cared about him and wanted the best for him. When the man choose which door he was going to open, I think he felt relieved that the women he loved had chosen to move on from her jealousy and save his life.

I think that the lover opened the door to the tiger. This princess was a “… hot-blooded, semibarbaric princess, her soul at a white heat beneath the combined fires of despair and jealousy. She had lost him, but who should have him?”(303). She would not be able to bear the sight of him, married and happy with another woman, while she was alone. The story never suggested that she tried to reason with her father about this trial. Her quick hand motion might suggest that since she could not have him, neither could anyone else. Being semibarbaric herself, the sight of him being devoured by the tiger would not necessarily bother her. She had probably seen many bloody trials before.

I think that the tiger is behind the door the man opens. One of my reasons why is because the princess didn’t want her lover to have anyone else besides her. Another reason why I think the man opened the door with the tiger is because in the story it said that, “The lady was one of the most fairest and lovelest of the damsels of the court who had been selected as the reward of the accused youth and the princess hated the lady (pg. 302). The princess may had been very jealous of the lady and didn’t want to even see the man get married to her. She loved him soo much that she didn’t want anyone else to have him but her.

I personally think the tiger was behind the door. The princess talked about how she hated the woman he would have married. Also, she was very selfish. The princess may have thought that if she didn’t get the man, then no one could. The lady thought “Would it not be better for him to die at once, and go wait for her in the blessed regions of semibarbaric futurity” (304)? This means that she may have wanted him to die and then they could get married in the regions of the ‘afterlife.’

well, reading the story that he will choose the door with the lady behind it. The princess tells him which door to choose. In her situation she has to make a very hard decision whether to let him die or choose the door with the woman. I think she choosed the door with the lady because it would be better to let her lover live hias life with another woman, then to let him die. But in both situations she will hurt because he would be dead or she would have to walk around the town looking at him with his wife when he should’ve been her husband.

I think the reader of the story should pick how it ends even if the characters want a different out come. Honestly I don’t know what I want behind the door. Sometime I feel that the princess wants her lover to live but she hates who her lover will have to marry. At other times I feel that she wants him to be mauled be the tiger so that she doesn’t have to see her lover married to who she hates. I think the whole entire decision is based on the princess’s own selfishness. So I am not completely sure who i want to come out of the door, it is all based on my own emotions i am feeling at the moment.

I think the vicious tiger was behind the door. The princess was described as being barbaric like her fatber “upon that hot-blooded, semibarbaric princess”(303) so an uneasy feeling comes when you think of what her temper might be. Then we see how upset she got after dreaming about her love being married to the beautiful lady, which is understandable because thinking of someone you love in the arms of another would make anyone jealous. We also might determine what was behind the door based on the man “he was handsome and brave to a degree unsurpassed in all this kingdom” (301). He was described as as handsome and gentle and he knew his love fairly well. Of course no one wants to die but I think he would have been okay with it enough knowing he would be reunited with his love later after death.

I think the lady is behind the door because the young man trusts the princess and he is understanding “No one but her lover saw her” The young man chooses what he thinks is something good for the accused person.

I conculde that the tiger was behind the opened door. I firmly believe that because the princess was described as “hot-blooded, semibarbaric princess, her soul at a white heat beneath the combined fires of despair and jealousy” (303). Since she was semibarbaric I can infer that the princess would not want anyone else to have her love. Being the way she is, I think that her reasoning would be slightly different from that of a more civilized gene pool. In conclusion, I think the tiger was behind the door she directed him to because of her nature and feelings of jealousy.

I think that the tiger was behind the door. We are all born with the desire to put ourselves first. The author’s description of the princess leads me to believe that she wouldn’t be strong enough to see her lover with another. I think her selfish desire outweighed her sense of reason, and she told her lover the door of the tiger.

I think the tiger is behind the door. In the story it talks about how the princess loved the man, but hated the woman that was behind one of the doors. The princess new which one was behind each door and the man knew she did. She raised her right arm to tell the man that he needed to open the right door. Because she hated the woman so, she wouldn’t want the man to be married to her, right? Therefore, she decided, I think, that she would rather have him dead, than to be married to another woman.

I think that the tiger is behind the door that the young man opens. I think this because the princess loved the man so much that when he looked to her she was acting out of selfish desire. By doing this she believed that she was doing the right thing. I also think that she gave him the tiger door, because she wanted him to be her lover and only her lover. She thinks in the book, “That she would rather gnash her teeth and pull her hair out … than to see him with another woman” (p303). This is why I think that the princess led her lover to the door with the feral tiger.

I think the lady is behind the door because his lover singled him to open that particular door. I don’t think the girl; his lover would single him to open the wrong door. I think she showed him the right door out of love and not envy or despair. If she really truly loved him I don’t think she would want to do him any harm. She would just want him to be happy.
16. alexis w | September 28th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I think it was the lady because if she truly loved him than she would rather see him alive than dead. If she picked the tiger than she would have to watch a tiger eat her true love. It is a hard choice. The answer can affect how you think and your own choice, but i would say the lady.Although she would be jealous and she despises the girl, if she wasnt selfish she would make choose correctly.

Im really not one hundred percent sure but i think that it was the lady. I think it was her because of the way the princcess was describing the situation. Also because of the way the i interpereted the ending i feel as if the princess was a little bit jealous of the situation. Thats why i feel the Lady was the one that came out of the door.

I think the lady is behind the door because she would not want him to suffer. She really disliked the lady behind the gate. I am sure both choices were hard either way. I still think she could see him every once in a while in the street if not dead by the tiger. That is why I think it is the lady.

I personally believe that the lady was behind the door he opened. I think this because no woman in her right mind would watch the man she loved be demolished by a tiger at her own expense. No matter how many hard feelings she had against the maiden, there is no way she would watch her lover die. If she allowed him to marry the maiden there are several possibilities that would still be open to her. First of all, the maiden could “mysteriously” be murdered and then the prince would be availiable once again. If push came to shove, she would always be able to speak and see her lover if he remained alive.

I think behind the door the man opened was the tiger. The lady was passionate about him, but also hated to see him with another woman. The story sad that she was very pale, I think she was pale because she was going to witness his death. If she couldn’t have the young man, then neither would the lady behind one of the doors.

I think the tiger was behind the door because I dont think the princess wouldn’t be able to take her lover being with someone else. Just thinking about it would tear her up inside. She woud have nightmares of ” his rapturous delight as he opened the door of the lady!” (303). She didnt want him to be with anyone else but her. Although the sight of “the awful tiger, those shrieks, that blood” (304) would have been horrible it still would have been better than seeing him with the other lady. It shows that she loved him but she cared about her happyness more.
22. Eric Hamilton | September 28th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
I think that the lady was going to come out. Why I think that is because the princess still loved him and didn’t want him to die. Even though he was going to be married to his new wife they still wanted to be together. Now whether or not he would cheat on his new wife for the princess i don’t know. But i think the princess kept him alive because she still wanted to spend time with him and he did too.

I think the lady was behind the door the young man opens, for several reasons. One is that it shows that the king might have sympathy for the prisoner. The story also gives clues that the lady was behind the door. The author probably wanted the story to end on a good note, and gave the prisoner a chance to start over. The author gave the prisoner a good women to start over his life with.

I think he left the story ambiguous because he was making a point and trying to create a particular effect. The effect that he created made people think about what the princess said about her telling the youth what door it was. He uses the princess’ back and forth thoughts to read carefully and react to the story personally. The point he was trying to make by leaving the story unfinished would make people answer themselves and find out what kind of person they are. He used it very well by leaving the end of the story open because it made you think about the princess’ thoughts and actions.

I think that the tiger is behind the door the young man opens. I think this because in the story, the princess uses strong and expressive words to show her dislike for the result of the lady coming from the gate. When she is describing her dreams she says, “How her soul burned with agony when she had seen him rush to meet the woman…,” (303). I think that when her face turned pale when she responded to the young man, it showed that she was scared because of the soon outcome and how important the decision was (302). Earlier in the story, the princess also describes her deep love for the young man, and I think that she couldn’t stand to see him with someone else by her reaction in her daydream. In conclusion, I think with the events presented in this story that the princess led the young man to the gate containing the tiger.

I think that she had a vey difficult choice, but I think I know which one I would have chosen. “[her desicion] had been made after days and nights of anguished deliberation.” (304) She would have hated for her lover to be with another woman. “Would it not be better for him to die at once, and go to wait for her in the blessed regions of semibarbaric futurity?” (304) However she also would have been horrified to see him mauled to death by a tiger. I think that the clincher for her would have been the fact that he would obvoiusly have prefered to live. She thought of what he would have wanted. That is why I say that the lady came out of the door.

I would like to believe that the lady is behind the door. But then again that would break the princess’ heart. Understanding the king’s personality, and how the princess shares many of his personalities, unfortunately, she probably chose to tell him to open the tiger’s cage. Seeing how she would rather remeber him, loving her rather than see him constantly, married to someone else. But either way she chooses, in a way shows how she loved him.
28. Leanne Krick | September 28th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
I think that the princess directed the man to the lady. I think she did that because if she really loved him she would want him to be happy and she probably wanted the best for him, even though she was jealous of the lady behind the door. I also think she would not lead him to the tirger because she would hate to see her lover die in such a terrible way. Also, if she had lead him to the lady she would still get to see him, instead of probably not being able to see him ever again. She spent many hours dreaming of the terrible horror of the sharp and cruel fangs of the tiger.

I think the tiger was behind the door the young man chose. I think this because, since the princess couldn’t have the young man and she saw him talking to the lady, she became somewhat jealous and thought since she couldn’t have him that the lady sure couldn’t. I think this decision was brought on by the princess’ barbaric half. If she didn’t have the barbaric half I still think that she might not have made the same decision because her love for him might have pushed her to let him live. But like I said earlier i think that she lied to the young man and let him die.
30. Josh Macks | September 28th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
I think that, to my sadness, the tiger was behind the door. The reason that i think that is the princess had a strong, barbaric spirit. Because of this, she would rather have the man killed than see him with another woman. She would be very jealous because the other woman was beautiful, and she had seen them talking previous to this situation. Also, she believes that she will see her lover in the afterlife, which would be better for her than seeing him with another woman.
31. ArabiaL | September 28th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
I think that the door he opens has the tiger. I think he opens that door because the princess said that she hated the lady. The princess also said she daydreamed about him opening the door with the lady, the priest coming out to marry them and she gnashed her teeth and torn her hair. She said agony would burn in her heart if he rushed to meet that lady. I think the princess felt that if she couldn’t have him no one could.
32. Imani Thomas | September 28th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
I believed that there was a lady behind the door because of the way the princess reacted to the opening of the door. The princess gnashed her teeth and tore at her hair. She had to sit there and watch her lover go off and immediately marry another woman. Another thing that proves my point is that there were shouts from the crowds, and the wild ringing of the bells. I would also like to add the fact that she shrieked when the priest married her lover and the lady. I believe that the princess would if she could have she would have turned out the tiger on the lady. This is because in the story it said that without the slightest hesitation she had moved her hand. I think this would have been to open the door the tiger was in.
33. Paige Peterson | September 28th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I think that the tiger is behind the door. I think tis because the tiger was a savage beast. The king would take pride in seeing the tiger rip the victim to shreds.
34. Autumn J | September 28th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
I think that behind the door was the tiger. Because the princess already knew which door had the tiger and the lady. The princess thought that ifshe cant have him then he deserves to die. This is why i think behind the door was the tiger.

I think that the door the young man opened had the tiger behind it. I think that the princess probably thought long and hard about the decision she made, but the princess was probably used to getting everything she wanted, and couldnt stand to see someone have what she couldnt.
