My favorite short story of all the short stories we read was “The Lady, or the Tiger.” I really liked it because it challenged me intellectually and made me think. I also really liked the fact that Frank Stockton let it up to you to decide the young man’s fate, that adds many levels to the wonderful complexity of the story. Lastly this story was just more interesting than the rest because of it’s attention-grabbing twists and gut-wrenching turns.

Marigolds was my favorite story to read because it had a good plot and ending. I appreciated that when Lizabeth destroyed Miss. Lottie’s flowers, she was immediately regretful. Overall, Marigolds was a very great story to read because of the interesting characters and their stories.

I really enjoyed the story “The necklace” the most. I think i enjoyed it so much because it was easy personally for me to understand. Also, I enjoyed that story because of the clever irony of it. Which was, basically if you tell the truth in the beggining, in the end it will lead you to a much easier life.

I enjoyed reading “The Lady or the Tiger the most. I really loved reading that short story because of the author’s use of letting you “make up” the ending to the story. I enjoyed his use of strong details such as, “Every heart stopped beating, every breath was held, every eye was fixed immovably upon that man. Without the slightest hesitation, he went to the door on the right, and opened it” (302).

The story i enjoyed reading the most would be The Lady or the Tiger. Enjoyed it because of how every little thing had a ton of detail. I also liked how the author left the story open for debate.

My favorite story that we read would have to be Dog Star. I am a huge dog lover, and really enjoyed reading the entry. I felt like I could sort of relate to the astronomer because I have a german shepherd. I know how attached you can get to them (or any dog), and how heart breaking it would be to leave them.

I liked writing about the story The Necklace the most. I liked writing about it the most because it was a great story full of irony which is one of my favorite literary devices. It shows that life is full of the unexpected. Without unexpected things everyday life would be pretty boring. Because of the unexpected life is worth living.

The story I enjoyed the most was the story “The Lady or the Tiger”. I liked it the most because I liked how the author left the final outcome of the story unanswered. I enjoy piecing together your own ending and thinking of how to link details from the story. I think it helps you pay attention to certain parts and leads you to catch the main idea that the author is trying to communicate easier. I enjoyed Stockton’s story “The Lady or the Tiger” the most because of the way he chose to end the story and his use of ambiguity.

I enjoyed reading The Lady or the Tiger the most. I like how Frank R. Stockton left his story ambiguous because it makes the story more complex, and makes the reader have to think. I thought that it was clever trying to figure out who was behind the door, the lady or the tiger, because it made me think about certain details in the story that I might not have thought a lot about. The story is left for you to decide which I enjoyed. Even after reading the story I sometimes will still think back about who was behind the door and how the story would end if the tiger, or the woman was chosen.

The story i enjoyed the most was “The Lady or the Tiger”. I liked this story because I think it was the most entertaining and it really captivated my attention. I also think Stockton was able to connect with his readers by sparking their imaginations and eluding people’s to be satisfied At the end of the story he writes “and so I leave it all to you” (304). He challenges us to come up with our own ending to the gripping story, to decide ones man fate.

My favorite story was The Lady or the Tiger by Frank R. Stockton. I really enjoyed this story for two reasons, one being that it was sort of written like a fairytale. For example the first sentece begins like this, ” In a very olden time, there lived a semibarbaric king…..” (298). I also liked how the fate of the prince was in the hands of the reader. I could decide the conclusion to the story and I enjoyed making up the ending to this somewhat sad and depressing “fairytale”.

I enjoyed the story “The Lady, or the Tiger?” the most. It isn’t likeomst stories I have read in the past where they dont tell you the answer at the end. I thought it was very interesting and liked the fact that you had to think about the past events and the things that were said and try and figure out on ur own which one came through the door; the lady, or the tiger.

My favorite story was Dog Star. Dog Star was my favorite because it portrayed how attatched one can become to a dearly loved pet. Even though they are just animals, pets can become a best friend, a good friend, or even the only friend a person could have, and this story presents that idea very well. This story also shows how sad and lonely a person can become when that pet dies or is taken away.

The story I enjoyed the most was “The Marigolds”. I liked this story the best because it was very detailed in it’s writting. I could picture things as I read the story. I also think that the ending was put together well because a lesson was taught. There was alot of emotion in the story too.

I enjoyed reading the story The Lady or the Tiger because it left a certain mystery at the end. “She had lost him, but who should have him” (303). It was up to the reader to figure out if the tiger or the fair lady came out of the door. It showed how the human heart can react to certain situations. “It invloves a study of the human heart which leads us through devious mazes of passion, out of which it is difficult to find our way” (303). The story shows you how jealously and despair can be the outcome of an suffering heart.

My favorite story was Dog Star because, one, its about dogs! Secondly, because I loved how the story tells us how only one simple dog can change a mans life. Also, how even when the dog died he would still see the dog’s face in the moon and knew that he would never forget his dog.

  • 18.    Callum A  |  October 3rd, 2009 at 12:33 pm

The story that enjoyed reading the most was “The Lady or the Tiger”. I thought that it accurately portrayed the complexities of the human mind. It was a story that kept you interested until the very last word. “The Lady or the Tiger” described the surroundings and imaginations of the characters well, without becoming long and tedious.

The story I enjoyed reading the most had to be the lady or the tiger. I liked it so much because it takes place in the roman or after the Roman Empire. That age is one of my favorites in history. The other reason I liked the story is because it had an interesting plot and included action, politics, and a good climax that is not really revealed.

Even thought i liked every story i think my favorite story was The Lady or the Tiger. I liked this story the best because it left me with a question at the end. I liked this story because i could imagine each sides of the situation. I imagined weather the woman would come out of the door or the tiger. I pictured the reaction for both of the situations. Those are the reasons why i liked this story better then the other storys that we have read so far.

The story i enjoyed reading the most was Dog Star. I enjoyed reading this story because it showed how bad it feels to lose som eone or something that you love. This story makes me think about how i would feel if i lost someone special to me.

  • 22.    Lisa E.  |  October 3rd, 2009 at 2:22 pm

I enjoyed reading Marigolds because it a good climax and resolution. It also had enough tension and emotion to keep the reader interested. When the girl was running in the night, it felt like you’re running with her, with all the description.

The story that I enjoyed reading the most was “Marigolds” by E. Collier. Marigolds was entertaining to read, because it gave a very descriptive memory. I could imagine everything I was reading perfectly and also you could feel everything the characters were feeling. This is why I enjoyed reading Marigolds the most.

My favorite story was Dog Star. I liked that story the most because i can relate to it more than any of the other stories. I Also had a dog that i grew close with that passed away so i really can understand the main character. This story was page turner for me and im glad i got the chance to read it.

My favorite story would have to be “The Lady or The Tiger”, for several reasons. The author knows how to keep the reader in suspense. Another reason this is my favorite story is because the characters are very diverse. In my opinion this story also had the best ending out of all the stories. I also enjoyed the theme of the story, it was very intriguing and caught my attention.

  • 27.    Imani Thomas  |  October 3rd, 2009 at 4:14 pm

I choose the story The Lady or the Tiger because first and mostly it because it was a very interesting story with a lot of twists and turns. I never expected the ending to be something I chose myself. That made it a lot more enjoyable to read considering I go to make it my very own.

  • 28.    ArabiaL  |  October 3rd, 2009 at 4:29 pm

The story I enjoyed the most was” Lady or the Tiger”. I liked the “lady or the tiger” because it catches your attention at the beginning and holds it all the way to the end. Another thing I liked was that the ending wasn’t determined. That made the story have a interesting twist.

  • 29.    Raymond  |  October 3rd, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Dog Star is my favorite story. Because i can relate to it. When i was younger i had a fish and it died and i was sad just like the man who owned the dog.

My favorite story to read so far was Dog Story. I liked it because when the astronout had to leave for space and leave his dog, he felt a feeling of lonelyness and sadness because his dog was his bestfriend. When you have a bestfriend like he had, you prgress a strong relantionship with that person or in this case that dog. He formed a special bond with his dog that lasted a lifetime for the dog and the author showed how strong that freindship meant when the astronout left you saw how badly he needed his dog to be there with him. It doesnt matter who that special relantionship is with just as long as you have fun with that person and he or she treats you right and you do the same!!!

I liked the story The Necklace because this had a good moral to the story. The story’s moral is that you should always tell the truth. In the story the lady loose the necklace and at the end of the story finds out that it is fake.

I really liked the Dog Star story because I like dogs. I also liked how the story was a flashback. I thought it was cool how the dream was tied in with the real life happening. Finally I thought it over all tied together really well.

The story I like best nis marigolds. I like that this story because it describes and tells how the old lady felt. It wasn’t a regular described feeling she expressed them through her marigolds. but when her marigolds got destroyed she lived her life and forgot about all the pain.
